DAVE SMITH

Written by Ricky Carroll

What a season it's been for Dave Smith. He's terrorised defences throughout the Isthmian Premier Division, scoring 29 times this season! He's consistently scored goals throughout the season, not hitting any barren spells.

Dave is a real fox in the box! When the ball is bouncing loose in the box, Dave Smith always seems to be there on hand to convert those chances. He has a poacher instinct! His movement is one of his best assets, and when he gets in behind the defence, one on one, he's lethal!

He is direct, quick, physically imposing and deadly in front of goal. Dave Smith is a problem for any defender! Dave is great at backing into defenders and pinning them, then laying the ball off and getting into the box to make sure he's on the end of the cross - which he is more often than not! As mentioned, he is comfortable with his back to goal, but one of his most prominent assets is his calmness in front of goal.

Dave Smith is a bagsman. He's a monster to mark. He can play with his back to goal and hold the ball up - or he can spin the defenders and run in behind. His hold up play is one of his biggest strengths.

Dave is not afraid to shoot from any angle. If a defender gives him a yard of space, he is not afraid to shoot from anywhere - and 29 goals this season proves that he scores more often than not! Despite Dave being deadly in front of goal - he's also assisted many goals in his time at Folkestone and previously with Ashford - when his tenacity and great movement have caused the opposition defence problems. Instead of shooting in these circumstances, Dave has squared for a teammate to tap in, proving he's a team player.

At 23 years old, Dave Smith is one of the most feared strikers in non-league football. His all-around game for some of his age is exceptional. Superb hold-up play, pace to burn, and deadly in front of goal. Dave Smith has it all, and it feels like this bagsman has plenty more in the tank!
